Quality of construction, systems engineering, and performance can be difficult to discern in today's motoryachts.
Every builder will claim to have the best product a t the lowest price, but due to the low level of profitability in the boat building industry many companies are forced to cut corners. As the old adage goes...there's no free lunch...which definitely applies when building a new motoryacht.
The best way for a consumer to evaluate the quality and value of a new motoryacht is to talk to those in the industry that have extensive knowledge and do not have a vested interest in the purchase. When speaking to surveyors, captains, and service vendors you will quickly realize that Offshore Motoryachts enjoy a unique reputation for quality, reliability, and their offshore handling characteristics. I suggest a potential buyer call an independent surveyor and ask them to share common deficiencies or shortcomings with various builders. Be assured they will not identify any inherent issues with an Offshore Motoryacht.
Amongst all the Offshore owners that I have met, I can unequivocally say that I've never seen a group of owners that are more enthusiastic and complimentary of their experience dealing with Offshore and the quality and performance of their motoryachts.
My many years in the business has convinced me that there is no substitute for quality. Put another way, an inferior, less expensive vessel will end up costing more money in the long term when repairs, routine maintenance, and resale are factored in.
