With shrinking inventory of used boats less than five years old, Luke Brown Yachts may take on the sales and marketing of a very select group of new boats in 2013.

One of the phenomenon that have affected our industry since the beginning of the 2008 contraction is the lack of new build yachts entering the marketplace. Many builders cut back production dramatically as the recession unfolded and have just recently begun to put their foot on the pedal again, albeit cautiously. Unfortunately, many stopped production all together or even closed their doors. As a result, those clients who like to purchase boats as a second owner where the boat is no older that five years old, have very little inventory to choose from.

We believe that this is presenting the market and us an opportunity. There are several new product lines from very competent builders being manufactured in excellent yards that are beginning to enter the market to take advantage of this pent up demand with products that offer excellent price-performance. Several experienced builders are beginning to pick up production and are re-evaluating their sales and distribution channels.

We have been intrigued by this opportunity. In the past, we have never sold new boats, always sticking to our policy of brokering the best used boats on the market and providing excellent and honest service to our large client base. But recently several projects have been presented to us and, as a result, our team of yachting professionals, many with manufacturing backgrounds themselves, have uncovered some extremely interesting opportunities. Heck, we’re even looking at using our cumulative knowledge developed over almost 25 years to introduce our own product.

We still have some reservations about the overall economy, but we believe that a bit of inflation is long overdue. One thing we know from our past experience is that when inflations rears its head, boat prices start to rise and when that happens, boats start to sell. We think that is a likelihood that warrants a more aggressive business plan.

Check our upcoming magazine advertisements in Yachting, Yachts International and other magazines. In those advertisements, you’ll begin to see several new products featured prominently on the page. We think you’re going to like the products that you see.

For one, check out the new Journey 47’ Power Catamaran, which was featured on the cover of PassageMaker Magazine in the Nov/Dec 2012 issue. She’s a beauty and we think her comfort, roominess, practicality and economy are going to make her a big winner in the marketplace. We’re on board and we think you’ll be too after you read up on her. Look for her and other quality new boats on our web site,www.lukebrown.com, or in our 2013 magazine advertisements.

In addition to establishing a new relationship with Journey Power Cats, we’ll be making some significant additional announcements over the next few months. We’re looking forward to a very exciting year!
