Luke Brown Yachts has closed a deal on a superb sailing yacht to a client that has been loyal for 21 years. Alan Bernard recently sold GITANA, a 112’ S/Y that was designed by Sparkman & Stephens and built by Derecktor Shipyards in 2001.

The client was a motoryacht client for most of the years and suddenly discovered that his passion for a sailing yacht had resurfaced. Switching gears and pursuing the sailing market was fun for the client, who quickly realized that the evolution of sailing yacht technology had changed immensely.

The ex-GITANA is a sailing man’s boat. The deck layout is unique in that it has twin wing steering stations from which the helmsman can comfortably look up the slot and watch his sails to steer the boat like a racing yacht. The stations are bolstered and extend outboard, but still giving passing room for the crew on the side decks. The line handling is all done behind the helmsman and is wide open for crew functions, allowing ample space for lines and the winches. This is a true performance oriented yacht.

The beauty of this design is that the guests have their own protected area forward of the helm stations where they can utilize their large cockpit space with seating. Facing in all directions, they can watch the action, observe the sea and enjoy cocktails and dining in luxury. Hardtop and forward windscreens protect the guests from the sun and elements, while allowing for a unusual open air experience.

The Yacht will be roaming the oceans to fulfill the owner’s dreams. Plans are to use the yacht in various locations, during all seasons. The boat will be putting many miles below her bottom while above, she’ll be putting smiles on the faces of the owner and guests.
