The 350 foot tall stacks at Port Everglades were demolished this morning at 6:45am. The event was filmed by our own Andrew Cilla who decided to do some early morning tarpon fishing while waiting for the 1960's iconic stacks to come tumbling down.
These red and white striped smoke stacks have become a landmark for cruisers coming in and out of Port Everglades for the last 50 years.
For demolition the stacks were packed with 250 pounds of explosives.
All of us who have cruised south Florida will miss seeing these candy striped landmarks.
End of story!
