Early on, Bertram focused its marketing on the company’s Hunt-designed deep-V hulls.  Bertram and Hatteras were arch-rivals in the 1980s, with Hatteras eventually winning out thanks to a more diverse model selection and better in teriors.
Financial difficulties—owing to a poor U.S. economy and Bertram’s concentration
on sportfishing boats only—forced a shutdown of the firm in 1993.
In 1998 Bertram Yacht was purchased by the Ferretti Group, an Italian yachting conglomorate. The Italian-based Gavio Group acquired Bertram’s assets in 2015 with plans to introduce several all-new Bertram models.
